All 3 Excel clinics offer Y-Balance Testing. The Y Balance Test is a simple, reliable test to assess a person's lower and upper extremity balance, strength, and coordination. The test requires the patient to reach forward, out to the side, and inside across your body. The test has been thoroughly researched and the purpose is to assess a person's risk of injury. By combining the scores of reaching in all 3 directions and comparing the injured leg vs the uninjured leg, it can be determined if the person is at an increased risk of injury. There are different acceptable ratios depending on the sport. For example, for football players, it has been shown, if a person has a ratio of 89% or less, the athlete has an increased probability of injury from 38% to 68%. For basketball players, if they have a difference of greater than 4cm to the forward reach, the athlete has 2.5 times greater risk of injury on that leg.
